Secondly, while I personally don't like the pairing, I could totally have seen them together prior to the events of TP, and before Midna was transformed into an imp. You know that cut scene where Midna was explaining her transformation? I like to believe that that was the ending point of she and Zant's relationship. I would of course like to know the story between the two
